Supported by HCLI, this whitepaper is derived from a recent CEB study on Enterprise Leadership in which more than 4,000 leaders and nearly 200 heads of HR at over 300 organisations worldwide were interviewed and surveyed. Paying particular attention to those in Asia, the goal was to understand why some leaders are more effective than others and what companies need to do to foster an environment in which effective leadership can blossom.
The study identified three key perceived barriers that dissuade leaders from demonstrating Enterprise Leadership:
- Lack of control without which few leaders believe they can succeed
- Lack of information on how to be a successful Enterprise Leader
- Lack of belief they will be paid for demonstrating this new leadership approach
In response, HR leaders can help build Enterprise Leaders within their organisation by:
- Focusing training on leader mind-sets
- Designing leader assessments to maximise transparency
- Redesigning leader evaluations
